Earthenware Slipware bearing outside decoration:
This mug is directly thrown (not “trimmed” or turned) using a coarse terracotta clay body.
There is a light red slip inside showing as “tawny’ under a honey glaze.
The exterior shows an combed sgrafitto’d fireclay that shows as orange breaking into crimson (&/or white) at the margins beneath a majolica glaze.
The rim is wiped to improve glaze adhesion & reveal “lapidary” clay tempering.
The internal/rim glaze is food safe & outside features dark glaze precipitation.
