Steve Carter Potter

I’m an individual maker of pots for use - for the table or in the kitchen - indoors or “al fresco”!

I’m currently newly installed in my fifth workshop/incarnation at the exciting “Unit 8 Studios” - home to a wonderful ‘extended family’ of creatives - a stones throw from my home (that doubled as workshop #4) here in St.Werburghs, Bristol.

I’ve lived & worked here for 30-odd years since founding the St.Werburghs Pottery combining research for teaching as well as small batch productions to sell locally.

I’m essentially a hands-on “mud & water” maker - & I deliberately place my work within parameters of viable functionality whilst seeking a magic of “happenstance” where materials & the making itself might speak out.. hopefully to reveal a natural (beautiful!) chemistry of time & place..

The base clay body I use mostly is of a Terracotta type which I ‘modify’ for “tooth” & lightness - it is always visible somewhere to contrast with the earth-colour slips & glazes I make using a pallet of raw materials - to be dealt out & worked into directly ..without fuss!

Please Note - Buying Work:

My IT skills are low!! Though you can purchase pieces here prices are for pots only. So you will need to come in person to collect them or message me to arrange & pay for posting separately!

The pots listed for sale here may be “one-off” individual pieces or from small batches represented by a typical piece - in which case do expect a little variation in appearance.

All pots are dishwasher friendly and my glaze recipe has been tested to British Standard 6748:1986
