Earthenware Slipware bearing outside decoration:
This mug is directly thrown (not “trimmed” or turned) using a coarse terracotta clay body.
There is a lighter red slip inside with a buff “old chimney pot” finger-combed slip outside. The rim is wiped to improve glaze adhesion & reveal “lapidary” clay tempering.
The internal/rim glaze is food safe & outside features dark glaze precipitation.
Please Note: Photos are of different mugs by way of showing the variations that can occur.
